Blue Tit | 20 × 16 inches

£1,500.00

50 × 40 cm (20 × 16 inches) | Original Acrylic on Canvas | Framed

Bright, bold and instantly familiar, the blue tit is one of Scotland’s most recognisable garden and woodland birds. In this painting, a blue tit sits amongst a tangle of delicate branches, its attention seemingly drawn towards the tiny caterpillar waiting just beyond its reach.

With its vivid blue crown and wings, white cheeks and soft yellow-green breast, the blue tit brings an extraordinary amount of colour and character to such a small bird. Unlike the much rarer crested tit, blue tits are widespread throughout Scotland and across much of Britain, equally at home in woodland, hedgerows, parks and gardens.

This original acrylic painting forms part of Heather Ogilvie’s Scottish Tits Collection, a series celebrating the beauty, individuality and character of the small birds found across Scotland.

The painting captures a moment of stillness before action. The detailed bird contrasts with the loose, atmospheric background and twisting branches, while the tiny caterpillar introduces a quiet sense of anticipation — has the blue tit seen it, and what happens next?

Painted in acrylic on canvas, the natural, earthy background lets the bird's brilliant blues, greens, and yellows take centre stage. This original piece is ideal for wildlife lovers, bird enthusiasts, and collectors of Scottish art.

Commissions

Commission an Original Painting

If you're looking for something truly personal, I'd be delighted to create an original painting especially for you.

Whether it's a much-loved pet, a favourite landscape, wildlife, flowers or a place that holds special memories, every commission is created with care and attention to capture not just the subject, but its character and atmosphere.

The Process

  1. Get in touch to discuss your ideas.

  2. We'll agree on the size, composition and price.

  3. A 50% non-refundable deposit secures your booking.

  4. I'll create your painting and share progress updates where appropriate.

  5. The remaining balance is payable before collection or shipping.

As every painting is created by hand, completion times vary depending on size and my current workload. I'll always provide an estimated completion date before work begins.

If you have an idea you'd like to discuss, I'd love to hear from you.
