Coal Tit | 12 × 16 inches

£1,750.00

30 × 40 cm (12 × 16 inches) | Original Acrylic on Deep Box Canvas | Black Wooden Floating Frame

Perched on a weathered branch, a Coal Tit pauses, its attention soon to be caught by a tiny spider hanging nearby. Small, alert and full of character, with its distinctive black cap, white cheeks and soft grey-brown plumage, the Coal Tit is one of Scotland’s most charming woodland birds.

The Coal Tit is a familiar resident of Scotland’s forests and woodlands, particularly favouring coniferous trees, where it spends much of its time searching for insects, spiders and seeds. Although widespread across Britain, its small size and quick, restless movements mean it can easily go unnoticed among the branches.

This original acrylic painting is part of Heather Ogilvie’s Scottish Tits Collection, a series celebrating the small but remarkably distinctive birds found across Scotland.

The painting captures a quiet moment of curiosity and anticipation. The bird’s soft feathers and delicate form contrast beautifully with the rugged texture of the old tree, while the tiny spider suspended nearby adds a subtle sense of life and intrigue to the scene.

There is something wonderfully determined about these tiny birds. Despite their size, they are busy, resilient and full of personality, qualities this collection aims to celebrate through detailed studies of Scotland’s native and visiting tit species.

Painted in acrylic on a deep box canvas, this original work combines intricate detail with a soft, atmospheric palette. The richly textured tree bark and delicate markings of the Coal Tit stand against a muted woodland background, creating a sense of depth and tranquillity while keeping the bird as the focus.

The 4 cm deep canvas is beautifully presented in a black wooden floating frame, which complements the darker tones of the tree and gives the painting a contemporary, elegant finish. It is an ideal piece for wildlife lovers, bird enthusiasts and collectors of original Scottish art.
